Castaway on the Moon

The story about people who are lonely and isolated even in the place where they are belonging to is not a new topic, especially in Asia because of the fast developing which created more pressure on daily life. However, the story about the endless loneliness viewed through the prism of humor and optimistic as Castaway on the Moon is really rare.

Mr. Kim, an unsuccessful man in his life, committed suicide by jumping into the Han River. Unfortunately, he is not died but woke up on a piece of ground that land in the center of Han River. This island stays at the bottom of the bridge’s leg in the city not far from the high buildings and the bustle urban. After a few times failed to call for help and commit suicide on this island, Mr. Kim has to find a way to survive and enjoy life on his own island.

Miss Kim, a young girl with a hikimori (an intense chronic depression), locked herself in her room for 3 years.  Her daily life was scheduled by herself. Every morning she uses the running machine, surf internet with visual friends and draws a visual life on internet. She also observes and takes photos of the moon with a dream to live there. Miss Kim even talked with her mom through text messages. One day, while observing the city she catches a glimpse of a strange person in a lonely island in Han River. She thought he is an alien so that she steadily observes him and try to contact him with a hope that he will take her to his planet.

The strange relationship but also poetic between two isolated people in a bustle urban has opened many humorous situations but no less touching.
